Homecoming Queen crowns new Queen!

I went home for homecoming last weekend to crown the new queen! And a ton of my friends came home too. Needless to say, the weekend was FANTASTIC!homecoming queen, college blogs

After I landed on Friday, I asked my mom to immediately drop me off at Pearce because a lot of my current senior friends don’t have a 7th period so, I got to see a lot of them :)

I then went home, ate dinner, and changed into my new dress to go to the game. It was pretty chilly so, I was cold a lot of the time. I got to the game just in time for the band to perform their show for pre-game. I hadn’t seen the whole show yet, so that was really cool. I really hope that they’re able to make State so I can see them perform here in San Antonio at the Alamodome. Anyway, some of my friends that I hadn’t seen in a while were already sitting in the band section so I talked with them until all the band folks came into the stands. Then as the game started I kept seeing all of my friends that I hadn’t seen since they/I left for school! It felt SO great. It almost felt like we hadn’t been apart for each other for so long except there was a lot more hugging. Haha.

Then came half time. I had to go down to the end of the field during second quarter to pick up the roses and get ready to go on the field. And about with about 5 or so minutes left on the clock…the stadium lights went out. I don’t think that’s EVER happened before. I felt bad for the queen’s court nominees who were waiting to find out who won because that meant that they had to wait even longer. By that time, the student council sponsor had already told me who had won :P Once they finally figured out the problem about…10-15 minutes later, the game continued until it was half-time. We had to wait until the other school’s band and drill team finished, then Pearce’s band and drill team, then it was time for the big moment! I handed flowers to the freshman countess, the sophomore duchess, the junior princess (who was a friend of mine in the band!), the senior princess, and then the senior queen! Her name is Erin and she’s a great friend of mine. Almost like a little sister. It was AMAZING to crown her. I was so happy that it was her. The look on her face was priceless. She was so happy and all of her friends in band rushed on to the field and set off those little party poppers. It was awesome. I’ll never forget the look on Erin’s face :)

The rest of the game went really well and Pearce ended up winning and I kept running into people I hadn’t seen in a while and got to hang out with my close friends that came home too. And by that time I had gotten a jacket too because it was FREEZING out on that field.

The next day was the actual dance and I went because my boyfriend is a senior at Pearce. I had a couple of my close friends over before/while I was getting ready because I wouldn’t get to see them that night because of the dance festivities. It really was like we hadn’t left each other. We still talked the same to each other, had the same crazy laughing moments, and just….it was great. I’ve missed them so much. And I miss them now, because I have to wait until Thanksgiving to see a lot of them again. That is WAY too far away. I am going home for fall break this coming weekend so, I’ll be in town for the night of my Dad’s birthday and that weekend. I know of at least one friend that’s coming home that weekend too (one that wasn’t able to come home for homecoming) so that’ll be good to see her again :) And of course it’s always great to see my family, boyfriend, and other current senior friends.

Anywho, after getting ready I got a quick picture with my brother and then my boyfriend came to pick me up and we headed over to the house that the after-party was going to take place at and jumped in the HUMMER LIMO to take pictures. Because it was raining we had to take pictures at someone’s house rather than our original location, but the pictures turned out great :) It’s alway so great to see all of those people. I can’t wait to hear about what schools they go to and where they’re headed too. They’re all going to be so successful. So, we went to dinner after pictures, then went and got ice cream, then went to the dance, which was pretty fun and made for some pretty funny pictures. After the dance was the after-party which was pretty chill. We all just kind of sat and watched movies because we were pretty beat.

The next morning, the chaperones made us breakfast and it was AMAZING. I had forgotten what a real breakfast was like. A real home-made breakfast. Exquisite.

Sadly, I had to leave that afternoon. After my boyfriend dropped me off at my house I started to get really sad. And when my Dad dropped me off at the airport, I got really sad too. It always hard to come back after such a great weekend.

This week wasn’t the best. Mainly because my writing workshop professor is a real jerk. I know he’s trying to better my writing, but he is just being flat out rude about it. I try to realize that he’s not meaning it personally and that he’s critiquing my writing, but the way he said it was just horrible. For a lover of poetry, he certainly doesn’t know how to articulate his own words in an nice fashion. He made me feel pretty horrible about myself, when I know he meant it for my writing and not me, but it’s hard to not take it personally with the way he put it. I went and talked to my academic advisor about it and I can’t switch into a new writing workshop class and I can’t drop the class because it’s a requirement for first-years that I have to knock out my first semester. So, I just have to push through it. If it was the workload that was hard, I wouldn’t be complaining this much and just push through it without needing to talk to anyone about it, but it’s this jerk of a professor. I just keep telling myself that it’s only one semester and we’re almost half-way through it and that the more I go to class, eventually the less I’ll have to go to class (if that makes sense). Every class period is another one that I won’t have to go to again. Also, one of my good friend’s older sister goes to Trinity and she was able to give me some advice and tell me about the writing center that we have in the library and how I can make some good use out of that. I’m going to try and see if I can get there this weekend because I have yet to send a thesis statement to this guy that he seems to be okay with. Even still…this paper is a research paper (yeah…researching a poem…woo-freakin’-hoo) and it’s hard to really come up with a thesis when I haven’t started a lot of my research, but he makes us send him a thesis before we’ve really read any f the critiques about the poem. Oh well. The paper will be turned in and over with in about two weeks. Just gotta trek on until then.

I’m glad that he’s the only teacher I have like that though. All of my other teachers are really helpful and don’t think that they have to insult me to help me succeed. I went into my psychology professor’s office hours so that he could help me come up with a thesis for the upcoming paper that we have and he was very very nice about it. We had been e-mailing back and forth about it and then he said that I should probably come it to his office. I did and it helped so much. I wish that my writing workshop teacher was approachable, but because of how he’s treated me, I don’t have much of an incentive to go into his office and talk to him. Maybe I eventually will, but as for now, I think I’ll just try and take advantage of the writing center.

That’s all for now. Only 6 days until fall break!
