But I think it’s probably important to know something of what you’re getting into. A little bit of the underbelly of what can happen when you choose to party and don’t take care of yourself or go out with reliable people. (more…)

I can’t seem to kick this cold. At least I think it’s a cold… My nose is clear but I’ve got postnasal drip which is making my throat sore and my voice has recently desserted me. I don’t have a fever, I don’t feel bodily aches and pains, I do feel sleepy at the most random times, and I haven’t lost my appetite. (more…)

Well the holidays were great. I got a job at James Avery where I ended up spending most of the money I earned! I spent a lot of time with friends and family and I went on a weekend trip to Denver where I saw my roommate, my friend Ian who is at school in Wisconsin and lives in Durango, CO, and I snowmobiled (it’s the BEST thing ever!) and skiied. (more…)
Well, thanksgiving has just ended. My favorite holiday. It has the 4 F’s: Friends, family, food and football. What else can you ask for? You don’t have to buy gifts like christmas, have a boyfriend like valentines, have a date/midnight kiss like new years, or worry about getting bad gifts like your birthday. The only thing comparable is 4th of July which is pretty amazing too. (more…)
So as I was sitting with Tam at dinner last week and I started explaining everything to her about life down at the big UT Austin, I realized that there’s a lot to say on here about well… everything! It’s not a common world for everyone and I shouldn’t just assume you know what I’m talking about. (more…)
So it’s finally Sunday and I am shockingly ready for the weekend to be over. All week I wait for the weekend but by Sunday I’m pleading for the restful week. It’s odd, weekdays are my rest days and the weekends are the roughest. Don’t get me wrong! I LOVE weekends! I absolutely have myself a big ole’ blast everynight and I entertain myself in the days! (more…)
So, one week ago today.. approximately to the hour… I got online to start writing a blog about the infamous TX-OU weekend 2009, a HUGE deal at Texas. If you’re any kind of cool at all, you go. A frat guy will ask you to go with him, you gather snacks, clothing, and paint a cooler for him, and get on a bus with the rest of his frat to go to Dallas. (more…)
Walking home from campus today I got this itch to address this issue in my blog. It’s bothering me a lot.
I love Austin. So much. It’s an incredible city. But what I can’t stand… is the way they treat homeless people around campus… (more…)
As I get into my college life 2 things have changed. I feel like I’ve lived here forever, not just like it’s camp anymore. As the leaves turn brilliant shades of orange and yellow and red, and the temperature lowers to a shocking 85-90 degrees and it rains like none other, I feel as though this is more permanent. My life is really moving on. I’m really in college. I’m really not going home until breaks and I’m really not going to see some of my friends until January at the earliest, or for some like my best friend, Ashlyn, not until this coming summer due to being on separate continents (University of Belgium). It’s scary as shit. I’m shaking and feel like I’m going to pee just thinking about it, but it’s exhilarating! I guess it’s sad it took so long to feel real, but it definately does. (more…)
So I’ve been to more frat parties/social events by now. Not nearly all of them, but quite a few and more to come. I’ve been to:
Sigma Chi- (pledgeline) they were nice, but everyone was really stiff because when I walked in TABC was there and so no one obviously wants to get MIPed. They had food out, which was fantastic, but we only sstayed 30 mins.
ZBT- (Jewish Frat, went to both a social event and a pledgeline) was alright, the guys were nice but there was no dancing or doing anything really but taking pics and talking
KA- (pledgeline) awesome music, dancing, and drinks, problem was no guys ever talked to you so you really only hung with the people you came with.
FIJI- (standard party) decent. met a giant racist asshole but he wasn’t actually in the frat so I’ll give them another chance.
ATO- (pledgeline and social event) awesome, these guy convinced me frats could be cool AND down to earth.
Sig Ep- (pledgeline) It started out alright, but by the end it was so boring and the guys just seemed to only talk to you if you were blonde or super rich or super drunk.
Pike- (pike is our social event tonight, I’ll update later how it goes but I’ve heard good things)
Kappa Sig- (standard party going on this weekend, will update later how it goes)
I’ve also been to a few small apartment or dorm parties and I really like those. You actually get to know everyone in the room and it’s much more chill. (more…)
