hey Steph! I completely and totally agree with you. Sarah Lawrence experienced the same thing when they "opted out" of the ranking game. And game it is. I've done several blogs on the folly of the ranking game. Thanks for commenting! I love Reed!

Hey Tam! Did you know that Reed College (my place) opted out of U.S. News & World Report because they thought it was a ridiculous way to do things? There's an article about it on the Reed website, I think. Anyways, when we refused to participate, our ratings went down. A lot. As in, we were originally in the top ten, I believe. Anyways, the reasoning behind not participating was that ratings are based on a ton of statistics that colleges manipulate, often in misleading ways, in order to make themselves look good while neglecting things that really matter. And that's what people are basing their college decisions on. Which is, I'd say, kind of silly. So I'm with Reed on College Rankings as a whole- pfft, I say.

How unfortunate. This only goes to show that the government should focus more effort in revitalizing our education system.
Thanks for informing the rest of us.

It is hard to get a job nowadays but that shouldn't make you lose hope on finding one. Set standards while looking for the best career that is handed to you. Let that career find you easier by 1.posting your resume in joblisting sites 2.tell it in social networks (you might have friends or relatives that might help you). Go to the interviews. You never really know what is good for you unless opportunity shows it to you.

Score guarantees have always been misleading. You can prepare a student as best you can, but still can't control how a student will perform on test day. Tutors need to simply prepare students with valuable test content, offer them helpful test taking strategies, instill in them confidence to succeed, and keep their mouths shut about guarantees.

I'm an alum. They say 30 minutes, but it's actually slightly over an hour to get to downtown by train. 30 minutes gets you to Evanston.

I couldn't agree with you more about finding the perfect fit between student and college. Too many kids (and parents) emphasize school name over fit. We are brought up on the notion that the Ivies are the destination schools, without ever assessing the students educational interests. Too many kids go to the wrong schools for the wrong reasons, then find themselves un-motivated or completely disinterested.

Almost 30 years ago, I was fortunate to have found the right fit for college, and I loved every minute of my experience. Great blog! and I'm book marking your website.
