I know of a student who also had a lapse in judgment one night. The RA reported her to the campus police, who called an ambulance, and she was taken to the local jail and kept overnight with others in similar condition but from VERY different walks of life. They took her cell phone, and when they let her go, she was on her own to get back to campus. It was a nightmare situation. But on the flip side, what if the university saw a student falling down drunk and did nothing? And what if something had happened to her? Then what? Imagine the headlines - the liability suit. Never mind that no one was sure what she needed at that moment. So it's true - misuse of alcohol can get out of control and lead to all kinds of unintended consequences.
